I served my apprenticeship as a Plater/Shipwright in Scott's Shipyard
on the west coast of Scotland from 1968 to 1972. I came to Canada on contract
with Canron in 1974. When my contract was concluded, I worked in various
shipyards in the Lower Mainland; Belaire Shipyard in North Vancouver,
Allied, B.C. Marine, Manlys, West Coast Salvage, Burrard's and Key Marine.
In 1988, I worked in the Maintenance Department of Terminal City Iron
Works until its final closure in 1999. I then joined Meridian Marine as
Foreman responsible for the Steelworks, New Construction and Repair side of the business.
